| Abstract: |
There is a high rate of co-morbid medical illness with mental illness in older adults, resulting in early mortality, disability and higher utilization of emergency medical services and nursing home placements. This workshop discusses size of the problem of co-morbid illness in older adults, and the continuity care needs of the population. In addition, practical solutions for integrating psychiatric, medical and social services for elderly persons with mental illness will be explored. |

To increase the participants' understanding about the occurrence of co-morbid mental illness with medical illness in older persons, and solutions for integrating services. |
| Objective 1: |
Participants will describe the prevalence of co-morbid medical illness in older persons with mental illness. |
| Objective 2: |
Participants will list methods of "bridging the gap" between mental health and medical services in treating co-morbid illness in older persons. |
